Child Safety Seats Save Lives
By Arkansas law, all children under 6 years old or 60 pounds and under are required to be in a child safety seat. It is estimated 80-95% of all children who are placed in a child safety seat are not properly restrained. The Fort Smith Police Department has certified car seat technicians that can ensure your child is properly restrained in a child safety seat.

Each year the Fort Smith Police Department receives a grant for child safety seats through the Highway Safety Office of the Arkansas State Police. These are utilized for low income families to ensure children are in a properly fitted and functioning child safety seat. Eligibility is determined on a case by case basis.

The Fort Smith Police Department, in conjunction with community partners, holds several car seat check-up events per year. We also perform car seat checks by appointment.

Please contact Sergeant Scott Campbell at (479) 709-5017 for questions or appointments.
